En Route

I can’t believe it’s already been a month. I really have to thank all my friends in Austin, especially Mark & Carson for letting me stay with them and Kenny for driving me to St. Louis. Austin was a fun time, and it was nice to see all the familiar faces while relaxing and taking my time. However, the month still flew by. I was going to take a train from Austin back to Kalamazoo but my buddy Kenny said that he would drive me to St. Louis and I could take a train from there since he was headed to Kansas City. So we decided to camp at Cypress Springs Lake Park and Table Rock Lake State Park for the week until I needed to be in town to catch the train. Hell, even that week flew by. And then it’s on to another week of camping in Michigan. I’m starting to dig the whole vagabonder life style.

The major disadvantage is that I have limited internet connection and I’m not able to post info daily, but not that it’s a bad thing. I find it quite a relief to not have the internet. It’s a temptation that just sits there; dormant until you fire up the computer. There are so many things to read, research, and investigate that I can get lost for hours just surfing the web. Now I’m going to focus my time on visiting places of beauty around the U.S.A.

Something’s Not Right

Well, I’ve been back for about 2 weeks now, and it still doesn’t feel the same. It just doesn’t have that home feeling to it. Maybe it’s living like a nomad that does it. Then again, we are nomadic animals, although you could never tell anymore. It could be because I’m used to being able to walk to the downtown area, or taking a cab for a few dollars to get to where I want to go. The public transportation system here is pretty vast, but equally as confusing. Maybe I feel stranded, although my friends allow me to use their cars. I can’t quite pinpoint what it is that feels different. Anticipation of something better? Who knows.

Well, after a 17 hour bus ride, then a 5 hour car ride, I’m back in Austin. Our incredible airlines only wanted to charge me $400 for a one way ticket from Mexico City to Austin. How cheap! Since I have more time than money, I decided that I would take the bus to the border and my friends would come pick me up. That way I saved $300, and the buses in Mexico are Volvo or Mercedes and just picture the inside as first class seats in a plane.

I have to say that this time back feels different. It’s great to see my friends and all, but I guess now I’m homesick again; this time I miss Mexico. Crazy isn’t it? It’s amazing how the tables turn. I’m sure I’ll be there soon enough, but first I’m gonna travel around the States so that I can become familiar with some of the places I’ve always wanted to visit.

Back in Austin

Well, after an actually pleasant 17 hour bus ride back, followed by a 5 hour car ride, I made it back to Austin, Tx. It’s nice to be back, but it’s different. I still sincerely miss Mexico, and Estefany, and this time back in the States just has a different feel to it. Maybe it’s because more and more of my friends are pairing up and moving in with each other.

Either way, I’m looking forward to taking advantage of my time here in Austin, and I’m really hoping to get some good photo time in.

How to Make a Living

So a lot of people have asked me what I am going to do when I return back to the States. I tell them I’m going to do the same thing I’m doing now; I’m going to live my life for me and not for the man. I figured that since I’m going to be traveling and taking pictures, why not try to sell them as well?

The project that has been taking up much of my time is almost ready to be unveiled to everyone. I am starting my own site to sell my photographs from around the world. I’m not sure how it will go, but it’s something. At least now I can tell people I have a job.

So now you have it. This is the reason I have not updated this site as much as I should have. That and I have been thinking of moving this blog to just Greediocracy.com, since I own it and I’m paying for the space. I’ll be able to be more creative with the site. I really like wordpress, and will continue to use it, but not a free account. It’s fairly limited and basic, which is fine, but I’m ready to expand a little more.

Winding Down

Well, I’m sad to say that my days a living in Mexico, this trip, are coming to an end. I’ve been here about 5 months this time and it honestly seemed to fly by. I try not to count down the days, but I have about a week left here before I travel around Gringolandia and visit friends and family. My friends in Mexico will surely be missed, but the person I will miss most of all is my beloved Estefany. Although I know it is not good-bye forever, it is good-bye for now. One never knows where their path will lead them, and I can only hope that my path keeps leading me to great places with great people.

Valle de Bravo

Well, I Estefany and I finally got to visit Valle de Bravo, one of Mexico’s ‘Pubelos Magicos‘ (Magic Towns). So far it’s been the best one I visited. Second best I would have to say is Taxco, and then Tepoztlán. There’s a reason that these towns are called magic; they’re very tranquil and great places to recharge your batteries. Valle de Bravo is located on a large lake, and the views from above are truly amazing. The first night we were handed a travel brochure that had 21 different attractions. We ended up seeing 15 of them. Not too shabby I’d say.

Sunny Days

Well, I can say that I’ve haven’t been doing much these days. The weather is gorgeous, and hot, and the nights still get a little chilly. I’ve been working on a side project in hopes to fund my trip even longer. As of right now I don’t have an exact plan for my travels, but an outline will surely help to get me where I want to go.

While visiting Xochicalco, Estefany and I saw a sign saying that it was one of the ‘13 Maravillas de Mexico hechas por en Hombre‘ (13 Man Made Wonders of Mexico). Immediately I wanted to visit the other search out and find out what the other ones were. Here they are (in no particular order):

Looking At New Options

Well, I haven’t worked for over a year now, and I can honestly say that I’m getting a little itchy to have a consistent day. So I’m trying to think of ways to occupy my days. I’ve tossed around the idea of selling the photos that I’ve taken. I’m still exploring the idea, and I think that it’s pretty solid. I’m not saying that I’m going to get rich or famous quick, but it’s something to help me pass my time while traveling around the world.
